The contemporary collection of new homes at Vickers Mews in the heart of the City of St Albans has proved popular with buyers. Over 35% of the townhouses have been reserved in the first weeks following the Show Home launch.
Located on London Road, Vickers Mews offers meticulously designed homes with a premium specification which blend the best of modern living with the rich heritage of the area. These strikingly modern 3-bedroom townhouses are arranged alongside the sympathetic conversion of an impressive Edwardian building into nine stunning 1 and 2 bedroom apartments.
The Show Home interior at Vickers Mews has been created by renowned designer Susan White of Phoenix Interior Design, who describes the design ethos as "urban, contemporary ‘cool’ with a punch of colour."
“Each of our designs is created individually,” said Susan, “so we’ve worked closely with Oakford Homes to ensure our completed design reflects both their expectations and their buyers’ lifestyle aspirations.”
Each room is designed with its own identity with standout vignettes to leave an exciting, lasting impression. The Show Home features embroidered couture wallpaper by Temperley London and bold abstract geometric wallpaper by Osborne & Little, with touches of metallic and flock adding a further layer of luxury. "We wanted each space to tell its own story while still feeling cohesive within the home,” said Susan.
Handpicked curved seating is featured throughout for a sense of home. "The curved seating gives each room a welcoming feel - it’s like an invisible hug that invites you in," Susan explains.
The chosen paint colours create a tranquil sense of flow throughout the home. The landings are both finished with en vogue beading, allowing collections of curated artwork to the staircase, illustrating the soaring high ceilings. "We’ve used the vertical space to create moments of interest as you move through the home," said Susan. "Why just edit or restrict artwork to walls? We all want our show homes to be individual.”
White’s innovative approach explores different ways to display artwork hung on bespoke padded headboards in the bedrooms and oversized pieces fixed to the library bookcase in the first-floor living room. “We also used pre-loved books which positively contribute to the sustainability of the environment. There’s also an aesthetics - old books are more charming and nostalgic, linking to the historical boat building past of the local area," she adds.
Originally owned by the Vickers Engineering Company and later Vickers Armstrong, the location of Vickers Mews was once home to the largest floatation tank testing facility in Europe. The Royal Yacht Britannia was tested there, along with more than 2,000 military, merchant and private ships.
The new homes at Vickers Mews are built to an exceptionally high specification by Oakford Homes to reflect hints of its industrial past with contemporary flair. The bathrooms and ensuites are fitted with contemporary Laufen and Roca sanitaryware and stylish black fittings from Hansgrohe, including a thermostatic Raindance shower.
Practicality has also been considered, with each home equipped with a washing machine and tumble dryer by SMEG, an external electric car charging point and electric garage doors for convenience, while the rear gardens offer low-maintenance living with paved patio areas and astroturf.
Each home features an air source heat pump that efficiently manages heating and hot water, along with underfloor heating throughout. A combination of porcelain floor tiles and carpets adds both style and comfort.
Vickers Mews now offers residents unparalleled convenience with a myriad of shops, restaurants and bars nearby, and just 0.7 miles from St Albans train station which provides direct services to St Pancras in 21 minutes, London Blackfriars in 30 minutes, and Gatwick Airport in just over an hour. For drivers, Junction 22 of the M25 is three miles away, the M1 is five miles away, and Heathrow Airport is only 27 miles from home.
With some homes now ready for occupation and reservations already exceeding expectations, interested buyers are encouraged to visit the Show Home and secure their choice of home in this unique scheme.
